Ecological Park of Guara

Description

The Ecological Park Ezechias Heringer, with an area of 306.44 hectares, is located inside the APA (Environmental Protection Area) Conservation Unit of the Central Plateau. It houses hundreds of plant species, including trees, shrubs, flowers, creepers and about 100 species of cataloged orchids. Bathed by the Guará stream, it is a refuge for some species of reptiles, small rodents and various types of birds. Its name honors the engineer pioneer in the study of the Cerrado and its orchids. The area where it is located was one of the locations in the DF where the agronomist and environmentalist Ezechias Heringer most acted, observing rare varieties of orchids typical of the Cerrado and native to this region.

The visitor to the park has the opportunity to learn more about these species when visiting the orchid in the unit, a space created in honor of the scholar, named Barjout Mirray Heringer, widow of the researcher.

Around the Park, besides the APA of the Central Plateau, in which it is inserted, there are the ARIE (Area of Relevant Ecological Interest) Riacho Fundo Wildlife Sanctuary, and the Denner and Ecological and Experiential Experiences of the Eucalyptus Parks.

The park has sensitive environmental attributes such as springs, stream, murundus field and several endemic species. It also has the presence of dense forest of typical cerrado gallery, which protects the water resources of the place.

The Ezechias Heringer has a structure for the practice of individual and collective sports, such as a jogging track and bike path, multi-sport courts, sand volleyball court and Community Meeting Point (PEC), playground with eight toys, three showers, set of banks and garbage dumps, guarita, ecological bathroom, and Rio + 20 Forest with cerrado vegetation. These and other improvements in infrastructure were delivered to the Guará community in November 2012, and were made from the use of resources from environmental and forestry compensation and through the direct application of resources from private initiative, adding a total investment of R $ 2 million.

In the process of recategorization by which all the parks of the Federal District, administered by the IBRAM, are passing through, in order to adapt them to the categories provided for in the District System of Nature Conservation Units (SDUC), the Parque Ezechias Heringer, now ecological park , will become district park. The opinion of the technicians, who are working on the recategorization, says the following about this Conservation Unit: " Considering the attributes and their high environmental importance it is suggested that the Park receives the status of Integral Protection Unit. It is proposed to recategorize it as a District Park Ezechias Heringer , with the possibility of merging with the Guará Biological Reserve, which practically has similar ecological attributes. "

Ezechias Heringer has areas occupied irregularly, which will go through the process of unemployment. The Park currently receives 300 people on weekends. It is located in QE 23, Guara II. Admission is free and is open daily from 6 to 18 hours.
