Saly Portudal (or called Saly) is a seaside resort area located on the Petite-Côte (small coast), south of Dakar. It is a high place of tourism in Senegal, even in West Africa.

Saly, was a bit of St. Tropez in the 50's.Tourism had already started to win the battle of African authenticity, but crisis passed had through there… Disastrous management of the state, of Sapco, henceforth visa is now cancelled, Ebola, jihadists and other wrong information’s comes from the west, and France especially, have annihilate the tourism sector in Senegal, among others, and Sally in particular. Except that within the station(resort), where a few kilometers away, you will meet or encounter wonderful people, Fabulous landscapes, Africa! Saly is a starting point, return of excursions, discoveries. With comforts, animations and tourism entertainment, Saly will meet the expectation of 95% of the tourists well-informed on this particular destination: holidays and discoveries. large number of residents, mostly the French’s, are well established in saly, Business or retirement, they form a community sometimes criticized but picturesque. Even though it is very far from mass tourism, Saly remains a popular destination for all those who are lucid to have chosen a DIFFERENT destination from Baule, Cannes, Biarritz, Rimini, Escala or Bodrum...Saly, it is a Tourism in Africa, it is typical, “elsewhere”, it’s special. It is Reserved for tourists who chose some exoticism, some typical Senegalese charm or to confine themselves in a club hotel under the pretext that the population are blacks, sticky and dirty! They have nothing to do in Senegal, a country with which one falls irresistibly in love with, if it’s the right feelings. Unexplainable!

History

The village was originally a Portuguese trading-post. This is how the Portuguese colonist would have nicknamed it “Sali Portugal”, a name which was transformed in the course of time to Saly Portudal.
Bult from scratch near the village, the seaside resort was inaugurated on the 24 of February 1984, at the time that the tourism increased in Senegal, previously an unfamiliar destination.

Neighborhoods

The arrival of a successive wave of populations from different ethnic group has resulted to the establishment of small hamlets in which today its coming together has brought about the "village" known as Saly-Portudal. These hamlets, assimilated administratively to “neighborhoods”, and were initially six in number :

• Saly Niakhniakhal
• Saly Bambara
• Saly Velingara
• Saly Tapé
• Saly Joseph
• Saly Koulang

Since the creation of the seaside resort of Saly-Portudal, six new neighborhoods have emerged due to the increase in the population of Saly: Saly Golf, Saly Extension, Saly Resort, Saly Carrefour, Saly Aerodrome and Sally Medina. The village of Saly is gradually extending to the town of Mbour.

Geography

Some think’s that Saly is located in M'bour (the department of administrative center), because nothing separates them : people walk from M'bour up to Saly or vice versa.
